Jim Lawley's picnic in the park

Which park would you go to?
The gardens of the Alcazar in Seville.

Why?
Whenever I'm there I'm always sure I'm in the right place.

Who would you go with?
My family and Rodrigo and his family.

What would you take to the park?
- a book Las Obras Completas de Pablo Neruda.
- a CD The second side of Abbey Road.
- a magazine The Spectator (well-argued articles with which I disagree).
- a video to watch later City Slickers.
- anything else? A chess board and pieces.

Inside your picnic basket what would you take
- to eat?
An Indian take-away (nice and hot)
- to drink? A bottle of Hock (nice and cold)

Who would you like to meet in the park?
A.L.Kennedy and Leonard Cohen.

What would you talk about?
Badgers, mus, nostalgia, the Kings Gambit, vocations, trains in the distance, duende, islands...

What would you do afterwards?
Afterwards? Afterwards? Who said anything about afterwards?

 

Jim Lawley graduated in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford in 1980. He holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from Birmingham University. His doctoral thesis in the field of English Language Teaching won a Premio Extraordinario at the Universidad de Educación a Distancia, (Spain) where he currently works. He is co-author of over twenty EFL textbooks.
